Returns, Refunds & Buyer Protection Policy

Effective Date: October 1, 2026
Last Updated: October 1, 2026

At Expat Mall, we want every purchase to be a positive experience. Our marketplace brings together independent merchants, service providers, brands, and customers across communities and borders.

Because different merchants may have different products, shipping arrangements, return requirements, and service terms, we want you to understand your options before placing an order.

This policy explains how returns, refunds, cancellations, damaged items, delivery problems, and purchase disputes are handled on ExpatMall.com.

Our goal is straightforward: clear expectations before purchase, fair treatment when something goes wrong, and a practical process for resolving problems.

1. Who Is Responsible for Your Purchase?

Expat Mall operates a platform that may allow independent vendors and merchants to offer products and, where enabled, services through WooCommerce and Dokan-powered marketplace features.

Unless a product listing or transaction expressly states otherwise:

  • The vendor or merchant is responsible for the products or services it offers, the accuracy of its listing, its stated return policy, product quality, fulfillment, shipping arrangements, and applicable seller obligations.
  • Expat Mall operates the marketplace infrastructure and may provide platform support, order-related assistance, dispute-routing tools, or other services where available.
  • The payment provider processes payments according to its applicable terms and procedures.
  • The shipping or delivery provider handles transportation and delivery according to its applicable terms.

The identity of the seller, the applicable transaction terms, and any additional conditions should be reviewed before checkout.

Where Expat Mall is itself identified as the seller or merchant of record, or where applicable law makes Expat Mall responsible for an aspect of a transaction, the corresponding obligations apply.

Nothing in this policy limits any non-waivable consumer rights or statutory obligations that apply to Expat Mall or a vendor.

2. Check the Vendor Before You Buy

Because Expat Mall may host multiple independent merchants, we encourage customers to review the seller's information before making a purchase.

Before ordering, check the following where available:

  • Vendor identity: Review the merchant's name, profile, store page, business information, and contact details.
  • Product description: Confirm the item's specifications, size, materials, condition, compatibility, and included accessories.
  • Product photographs: Review available images and ask questions if important details are unclear.
  • Return and refund terms: Check the vendor's stated return window, eligibility requirements, restocking fees, and any applicable exclusions.
  • Shipping information: Confirm the estimated dispatch time, delivery destination, shipping costs, and any stated delivery restrictions.
  • International orders: Check whether customs duties, import taxes, brokerage fees, or other charges may apply.
  • Reviews and reputation: Consider available ratings, customer feedback, and other relevant information, while recognizing that reviews cannot guarantee future performance.
  • Warranty and after-sales support: Review any manufacturer's warranty, seller warranty, or service arrangements.

If the information you need is missing, contact the vendor through the communication tools provided by Expat Mall, if available, before placing your order.

We encourage vendors to publish clear and accurate store policies. However, a vendor profile, listing, badge, review, or presence on Expat Mall does not automatically mean that Expat Mall has independently verified every claim made by that vendor.

3. Vendor Return Policies

Vendors may offer different return and refund terms depending on the type of product, its condition, how it is delivered, and applicable law.

Where the platform supports vendor-specific policies, customers should review the policy displayed on the relevant product listing, vendor store page, or checkout screen before purchasing.

Vendors are responsible for ensuring that their stated policies are accurate, consistent with their actual practices, and compliant with applicable law.

A vendor's policy cannot remove a consumer's mandatory legal rights. If a vendor's stated terms conflict with applicable law, the law takes precedence.

Where a vendor has not published a clear policy, contact the vendor and Expat Mall support before ordering if the return conditions are important to your decision.

4. When May a Return or Refund Be Available?

Depending on the product, vendor policy, transaction terms, and applicable law, a customer may be eligible for a return, replacement, repair, partial refund, or full refund in circumstances such as:

  • The item arrives damaged or defective.
  • The item is materially different from its description.
  • The wrong item, size, quantity, or variation was delivered.
  • The order was not delivered within an applicable legally required or contractually agreed timeframe.
  • The vendor agrees to accept a return under its published policy.
  • The vendor cancels an order or cannot fulfill it.
  • The customer exercises a cancellation, withdrawal, warranty, or other right provided by applicable law.
  • A payment was duplicated or an incorrect amount was charged.

Whether a remedy is available depends on the circumstances and the applicable transaction terms and law. Some situations may be resolved through a replacement, repair, or other appropriate remedy rather than a refund.

5. Change of Mind and Unwanted Purchases

If you simply change your mind, decide you no longer want an item, or order the wrong product, your ability to return it may depend on the vendor's policy and applicable law.

Before purchasing, check whether the vendor accepts change-of-mind returns and whether any conditions apply.

Where a voluntary change-of-mind return is permitted, the vendor may specify reasonable conditions concerning the item's condition, packaging, proof of purchase, return shipping, and return timeframe, subject to applicable law.

Nothing in this section removes any cancellation or withdrawal right that consumers may have under applicable law.

6. Damaged, Defective, Incorrect, or Misdescribed Items

If your order arrives damaged, defective, incorrect, incomplete, or materially different from its description, please contact the vendor promptly and notify Expat Mall if you need platform assistance.

To help us assess the issue, provide where reasonably available:

  • Your Expat Mall order number.
  • The name of the vendor or merchant.
  • A clear description of the problem.
  • Photographs or video showing the item and its condition, where appropriate.
  • Photographs of the external packaging and shipping label if the package appears damaged.
  • Any relevant delivery or tracking information.

Please retain the item, packaging, and other relevant materials until the issue has been assessed, where reasonably practical and safe to do so.

Do not continue using a product that appears unsafe or poses a risk of injury.

The vendor should review the complaint and provide an appropriate resolution consistent with its obligations and applicable law. Depending on the circumstances, the resolution may include repair, replacement, return, refund, or another legally appropriate remedy.

Expat Mall may assist with communication or dispute escalation where available, but the availability of platform assistance does not replace any rights or remedies provided by law.

7. Incorrect or Missing Orders

If you receive the wrong product, fewer items than ordered, or a package that appears incomplete, contact the vendor and provide your order details.

The vendor may request reasonable evidence to identify the problem and determine the appropriate remedy.

If your order contains products from multiple vendors, review the order details carefully. Different items may be dispatched separately and may have different tracking information or delivery dates.

If the package is marked as delivered but you cannot locate it, check the delivery address, available tracking information, and any delivery notifications before contacting the vendor and carrier.

8. Shipping Delays, Lost Packages, and Delivery Problems

Delivery estimates may depend on the vendor, shipping carrier, destination, customs processing, weather, local conditions, and other factors.

If an order is delayed, tracking information is unavailable, or a package appears lost, contact the vendor with your order number and tracking details.

The vendor should investigate with the carrier where appropriate and help determine the next steps.

For international orders, customs clearance and import procedures may affect delivery times. However, customs delays do not automatically remove any consumer rights or seller obligations that apply to the transaction.

If an order cannot be delivered, is lost, or is not delivered within a legally required or contractually applicable period, available remedies will depend on the facts, transaction terms, and applicable law.

Customers should not assume that an order is ineligible for a refund solely because a tracking system marks it as dispatched or delivered.

9. How to Request a Return or Refund

For the fastest resolution, follow these steps:

Step 1: Review Your Order

Sign in to Expat Mall and locate the relevant order in your account or order history, where this feature is available. Confirm the vendor, order number, item, and purchase date.

Step 2: Review the Vendor's Policy

Check the applicable product listing, vendor store page, and checkout information for return instructions and eligibility requirements.

Step 3: Contact the Vendor

Use the vendor's published contact information or the platform's available messaging tools to explain the issue and request a return, replacement, or refund.

Step 4: Provide Supporting Information

Include your order number, a clear explanation of the issue, and any relevant photographs, tracking details, or other reasonable supporting evidence.

Step 5: Contact Expat Mall if Necessary

If the vendor does not respond, you cannot resolve the issue, or you believe the transaction involves fraud or a policy violation, contact Expat Mall through the official contact channels listed on our website.

When contacting us, include your order number and the vendor's name so we can identify the transaction.

Please contact us as soon as reasonably possible after discovering a problem. Any stated reporting period is subject to applicable law and does not eliminate mandatory consumer rights.

10. Expat Mall's Role in Disputes

Expat Mall aims to support a trustworthy marketplace and may assist customers and vendors in resolving transaction-related concerns.

Depending on the circumstances and available platform tools, we may:

  • Help route a complaint to the relevant vendor.
  • Request information from the parties.
  • Review information available through the platform.
  • Encourage the parties to communicate and seek a fair resolution.
  • Restrict or remove listings that appear to violate platform rules.
  • Take action against a vendor account where warranted under our policies and applicable law.
  • Refer users to the applicable payment provider or other appropriate dispute-resolution channel.

Expat Mall does not promise to investigate or resolve every dispute, guarantee that a vendor will respond, or guarantee a particular outcome in every case.

Where Expat Mall has direct responsibility for a transaction or is required by applicable law to provide a remedy, this policy does not remove that responsibility.

11. Refund Approval and Processing

Once a refund is approved by the party responsible for processing it, the refund will generally be returned through the original payment method where supported and appropriate.

The time required for the funds to appear in your account may depend on the payment gateway, bank, card issuer, payment method, and country.

Expat Mall and the vendor cannot guarantee the exact time required by a bank or third-party payment provider to post a refund.

In some circumstances, a refund may need to be processed through another permitted method or payment-provider procedure. Any alternative arrangement should be communicated clearly to the customer and comply with applicable law.

If an approved refund has not appeared after the timeframe communicated to you, contact the relevant vendor or Expat Mall support with your order details.

12. Original Shipping, Return Shipping, and Other Fees

Responsibility for shipping charges and other costs depends on the reason for the return, the vendor's published policy, the transaction terms, and applicable law.

For voluntary change-of-mind returns, the customer may be responsible for return shipping where the vendor's policy clearly provides for it and applicable law permits it.

For damaged, defective, incorrect, or materially misdescribed products, the vendor may be responsible for return shipping or other reasonable costs where required by applicable law or the applicable transaction terms.

Original shipping fees, expedited delivery charges, handling fees, restocking fees, customs duties, taxes, and other costs may be treated differently depending on the circumstances.

Any deduction from a refund must be permitted by applicable law and disclosed where required. A vendor cannot impose a fee that unlawfully limits a customer's statutory rights.

13. Products That May Have Special Return Conditions

Certain products may have special return conditions due to hygiene, safety, personalization, perishability, licensing, digital delivery, or other characteristics.

Examples may include:

  • Personalized or made-to-order products.
  • Perishable goods, including certain food products.
  • Products that are sealed for health or hygiene reasons.
  • Digital downloads and electronically delivered content.
  • Software, licenses, or products activated or redeemed after purchase.
  • Products with limited shelf lives or special storage requirements.
  • Items sold as used, refurbished, or collectible, where their condition is clearly disclosed.

Any special restriction must be clearly communicated before purchase and must comply with applicable law. These categories are not automatically excluded from refunds in every jurisdiction or circumstance.

For example, a defective product may still qualify for a remedy even if a vendor ordinarily restricts change-of-mind returns.

14. Digital Products and Electronically Delivered Content

Where Expat Mall supports digital products, downloadable files, software, memberships, or electronically delivered content, the applicable refund terms may depend on the nature of the product and the vendor's stated policy.

Customers should review the product description, license terms, access conditions, and refund policy before completing a purchase.

If digital content is not delivered, is inaccessible due to a verified technical issue, or materially differs from its description, contact the vendor and Expat Mall support where appropriate.

Any waiver, restriction, or limitation concerning cancellation or refund rights for digital content must comply with applicable law, including any required disclosures or express customer consent.

15. Services, Appointments, Events, and Bookings

Where Expat Mall enables customers to purchase services, consultations, appointments, event tickets, bookings, or other non-physical offerings, the relevant provider's cancellation and refund terms should be reviewed before purchase.

Depending on the transaction, available remedies may be affected by:

  • The scheduled date and time.
  • The provider's cancellation deadline.
  • Whether the service has already begun or been completed.
  • Whether the provider cancels or fails to deliver the service.
  • Any applicable no-show or rescheduling terms.
  • Mandatory consumer cancellation or refund rights.

Customers should contact the service provider promptly if they need to cancel, reschedule, or report a service problem.

Where a provider cancels a service or fails to perform an obligation, the customer may be entitled to a refund or another remedy under the applicable terms and law.

16. Subscriptions, Memberships, and Recurring Payments

If Expat Mall or a vendor offers recurring memberships, subscriptions, or other automatically renewing products, the applicable price, billing interval, renewal conditions, cancellation procedure, and refund terms should be disclosed before purchase.

Customers should use the account settings or cancellation method provided for the relevant subscription, or contact the responsible provider if the available method does not work.

Canceling a subscription generally stops future renewals according to the applicable terms. It does not necessarily create a right to a refund for a period that has already begun or a service that has already been provided, subject to applicable law and the specific subscription terms.

Any mandatory cancellation, withdrawal, or refund rights take precedence over conflicting policy language.

17. Orders Canceled Before Fulfillment

If a customer requests cancellation before a vendor has dispatched a product or begun providing a service, the vendor should review the request promptly under the applicable terms and law.

Cancellation may not be possible once an order has been dispatched, personalized, activated, or otherwise entered a stage where cancellation is restricted by applicable law or clearly disclosed terms.

If the vendor cancels an order or cannot fulfill it, the customer should receive any refund or other remedy required by the applicable transaction terms and law.

18. Fraudulent, Unauthorized, or Duplicate Payments

If you believe that a payment was unauthorized, duplicated, incorrectly charged, or associated with a fraudulent transaction, contact Expat Mall, the vendor, and/or the payment provider as appropriate.

Do not send full payment-card numbers, security codes, passwords, or authentication codes through ordinary community posts or direct messages.

Payment disputes and chargebacks may be subject to the payment provider's procedures, deadlines, evidence requirements, and applicable law.

Customers should provide accurate information when disputing a charge. Vendors and platform operators should also respond to legitimate payment disputes with relevant transaction records where required.

19. Chargebacks and Payment Disputes

If you are unable to resolve a payment issue directly, you may have the right to contact your bank, card issuer, or payment provider to ask about available dispute procedures.

Before initiating a chargeback, where reasonably practical, we encourage you to contact the vendor or Expat Mall so that the issue can be reviewed.

This request does not limit any legal right to dispute a transaction, report fraud, or seek relief from a payment provider or competent authority.

Expat Mall may review relevant transaction information and take proportionate action against suspected fraud or repeated misuse of payment procedures, consistent with applicable law and any required dispute-resolution process.

20. International Orders, Customs, and Taxes

Expat Mall may connect customers with vendors operating in different countries. International transactions can involve additional delivery times, customs procedures, import restrictions, duties, taxes, and other charges.

Before ordering internationally, customers should review the product listing and checkout information and determine whether additional charges may apply.

Responsibility for customs duties, import taxes, shipping, and related charges depends on the transaction terms, delivery arrangements, and applicable law.

If an order is delayed, rejected, or returned because of customs restrictions, an incorrect address, or other cross-border issues, the available remedies depend on the circumstances. Vendors must not use this section to avoid obligations imposed by applicable consumer law.

21. Vendor Responsibilities

Vendors selling through Expat Mall are expected to:

  • Publish accurate product descriptions and material terms.
  • Provide clear return, cancellation, and refund information where required.
  • Honor applicable statutory consumer rights and their valid published commitments.
  • Fulfill orders accurately and communicate material delays.
  • Respond to legitimate customer complaints within a reasonable period.
  • Provide accurate shipping and tracking information where available.
  • Handle refunds, replacements, and returns in accordance with applicable law and their transaction obligations.
  • Maintain any licenses, authorizations, or insurance required for their activities.
  • Comply with Expat Mall's Terms of Service, vendor requirements, and applicable marketplace rules.

Expat Mall may establish additional seller standards, require policy information, restrict listings, or suspend vendor access when warranted.

22. Customer Responsibilities

Customers are expected to:

  • Review product descriptions, vendor details, shipping information, and return terms before ordering.
  • Provide accurate delivery and contact information.
  • Follow reasonable and lawful return instructions.
  • Communicate honestly about order problems and provide relevant supporting information.
  • Protect their account credentials and payment information.
  • Avoid fraudulent refund requests, fabricated evidence, or deliberate misuse of dispute procedures.

These expectations do not limit a customer's mandatory legal rights.

23. No Blanket Guarantee of Marketplace Transactions

Unless Expat Mall expressly offers a separate buyer-protection program or guarantee under specific published terms, the existence of an Expat Mall account or a purchase through the platform does not automatically entitle a customer to compensation from Expat Mall for every vendor dispute.

Expat Mall does not guarantee that every vendor will fulfill every order, that every product will meet every customer's expectations, or that every dispute can be resolved successfully.

However, Expat Mall will address its own obligations under applicable law and any express commitments it makes. Nothing in this policy excludes liability or consumer protections that cannot lawfully be excluded.

24. Changes to This Policy

Expat Mall may update this policy as its marketplace features, payment arrangements, vendor requirements, and legal obligations evolve.

Updates will be published on this page with a revised “Last Updated” date. Where required by law or an applicable agreement, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent before changes take effect.

The terms applicable to a specific purchase may also include the vendor's policy, product listing, checkout disclosures, and other transaction documents in effect when the order was placed, subject to applicable law.

25. Contact and Support

For questions about a return, refund, damaged item, delivery issue, or marketplace purchase, begin by contacting the relevant vendor using the contact details or communication tools provided through Expat Mall.

If the issue remains unresolved, you cannot reach the vendor, or you believe the matter involves fraud or a violation of platform rules, contact Expat Mall through the official contact channels listed on ExpatMall.com.

Please include your order number, vendor name, and a concise description of the issue. Do not include full payment-card details, passwords, or other unnecessary sensitive information.

Our commitment: We want customers and merchants to have clear expectations, fair processes, and a trustworthy place to do business across borders. When something goes wrong, we encourage prompt communication and a practical, good-faith effort to find an appropriate resolution.
